As a convener of community engagement, DAP is proud to sponsor community educational events to address concerns of residents. We reach out to our networks of friends, family and colleagues to research the issues and disseminate the information in free monthly seminars. Our goal is to provide guest speakers who are considered subject matter experts on the topics about which our community is most interested.

On February 21, 2017, member Kibibi Blount-Dorn will host the topic “Planning for Comunity Food Security in Detroit”, featuring guest speakers Mimi Pledl of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) and Velonda Thompson, PhD, of the City of Detroit Health Department. As Education and Engagement Program Manager at Detroit Food Policy Council, Kibibi is also a Subject Matter Expert in the field of food security and will be a “guest” speaker as well.

On March 28, 2017, member Cheryl Kearney will host the topic, “Financial Literacy and Asset Building in Communities of Color”, when our guest speakers will be Dr. Nicole Farmer, Attorney Brooke Archie, Rennette Gordon, Tylene Harris and Kwaku Osei. More information to follow in the coming weeks. Tickets available on March 1, 2017 at https://dapbuildingwealthandassets.eventbrite.com

While these events are free, we hope they will inspire you to become a dues paying member of DAP or by supporting our work through your generous donations.
